Mike Heston



Mike came to Pullman in 1979 attending Washington State University.  After two years, he returned to Moses Lake and began his fire service career as a resident volunteer and later part-paid with Grant County Fire District #5 in 1981. He returned to WSU in the fall of 1983 joining the WSU Fire Department as a student resident and was later hired full-time by the department in 1985 where he worked for 11 years receiving a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Political Science from Washington State University.

In October of 1996, Mike joined the City of Pullman Fire Department as the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations until his appointment as Fire Chief on February 1, 2013. He is a graduate of the 2017 Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy and holds the Chief Fire Officer credentials with the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).

Mike is involved in the community with Scouts, Lion’s Club and serving on numerous committees.  He also serves as a member of the Northwest Interagency Incident Management Type 2 Team.
