ASPCA® Grant Funds Animal Control Officer Training
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Pullman Police Department today announced that they received a
grant of nearly $2,000 from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®
(ASPCA®) to enhance the welfare of animals in Pullman, Wash. through police training.
Pullman police and code enforcement officers responded to over 800 animal-related calls in
2014. Two Pullman Police Code Enforcement Officers are tasked with animal control duties for
the City of Pullman, as well as being responsible for parking and other City code enforcement
duties. Animal control officer training has not been available in the State of Washington until this
year when the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission offered an Animal
Control Officer Training Academy in Burien, Washington.
Pullman Police have received a grant from the ASPCA to cover the training costs of tuition, travel
to/from Burien, and per diem expenses for a code enforcement officer to attend the Animal
Control Officer Training Academy in March, 2015. The ASPCA granted nearly $2,000 to Pullman
Police, which will fund the majority of training costs. The training funded by the ASPCA grant will
benefit animal owners and those who would come into contact with animals, as well as the
overall welfare and protection of animals in Pullman.
“The ASPCA commends the animal-related work of the Pullman Police Department,” said Matt
Stern, director of ASPCA Anti-Cruelty Group Operations. “We hope this training will allow them
to create an even safer community for the animals and residents of Pullman.”
The Pullman Police Department is grateful to the ASPCA for their contribution to enhancing
animal services in our community.
