The pages of the calendar are turning quickly, and the Fourth of July is already behind us. Summer is life at its best, and even though the lazy days of the season suggest a slower pace, there is so much to enrich our lives at Neill Public Library.  Come in and take advantage of all the library has to offer the Pullman community.  It is free, and everyone is welcome.

Summer can be a time to tackle the “To Do List” and profit from the extra daylight hours.  Maybe you have been contemplating that summer project and need ideas.  The library has resources to provide information for building a deck, installing a new water feature, or updating the landscaping.  Now that the project is done, you might want to host a neighborhood
barbecue.  The cookbooks, the magazines, and the free online access at Neill Public Library can all provide inspiration for new recipes and entertaining ideas for a warm summer evening.  For family entertainment after the sun goes down, check out the great selection of DVD’s, including documentaries, foreign films, kids’ favorites, and movie classics.  And don’t forget the books on CD, e-books and e-audiobooks that can be checked out to make hours traveling in the car during the summer vacation fly by for listeners of all ages.

Summer is the perfect time to pick up that book you have been wanting to read.  Be a role model and encourage and challenge your children and grandchildren to read this summer.  If you hear, “There is nothing to do,” that is a perfect moment to suggest reading a book and being transported into another world.  Reading is a terrific way to keep kids focused when they are not in the classroom on a daily basis, and to help reduce the documented summer learning loss that kids experience when school begins again in the fall.

To encourage reading, stop by Neill Public Library and sign up for the Summer Reading
Program for kids, birth to seventeen years.  The theme this year is “Libraries Rock.” Filling out the reading log encourages young readers and the prizes offered through the program provide incentives for participation.  Mother Goose reading sessions are offered all summer, and there are fun, interactive Tuesday programs for children age four and older.  The Summer Reading Finale on July 26 celebrates the success of all the young readers who have participated in the Summer Reading Program.

There are a multitude of reasons to visit the library this summer and to make use of its services.  Whether you are searching for a newly published book, are using the free internet, or are looking for a quiet spot to study, come to Neill Public Library where the opportunities are limitless.  Stop in and see for yourself.  In the words of Dr. Seuss, “You can find magic wherever you look, sit back and relax, all you need is a book.”
